Aurora

This small rug was created to celebrate the Aurora. I dyed the wool using the dip-dye method and manipulated when the color changed to get the swirly idea of the Northern Lights. It was created in 2025.

This piece won a first place ribbon ay the Dutchess County Fair in 2025 and a Blue Ribbon at the Big E Fair. It also won a second place ribbon at the Harwinton Fair in 2025.

Remarks from the Judge:

What a stunning piece and what a beautiful subject. This unusual piece is so curios because it is both peaceful to look at with its quiet evening silhouette of the woods and at the same time, it is so energized with its electric aurora borealis sky. The contrast makes the subject very dramatic. The strong directional hooking is an excellent technical trick. You were very successful in the transitions and the flow of color in the sky. The tall thin orientation of this piece adds a lot to its interest. I can see you have hand-dyed the wool. Very well done and fabulous color palette.
